Morgan County resident Richard Troup has written and published a book entitled RX for Student Motivation and Achievement.

Mr. Troup was a principal in Morgan County, at Homer-Union, Marion, York, and Malta schools, for 16 years. The book contains stories about the various activities and events he organized during that time.

During his years as a principal, Mr. Troup accompanied two spellers, and their parents, to the National Spelling Bee, in Washington DC, where they met Senator John Glenn and President Ronald Reagan. He also started an Academic Challenge League among all the county elementary schools, and established a Scholarship Banquet at each of his schools to recognize academic achievement. Because of these and other activities, student motivation improved, as well as test scores.

Troup will be signing copies of the book from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at the Kate Love Simpson Library. The book will be on sale at the library.
